Sparks is Getting a $840,000 Federal Grant to Increase Energy Efficiency

An article from RGJ.com talks about how when winter comes closer and closer, Sparks will be getting many federal stimulus and fund the procedures using a $840,000 grant.

The grant will boost the renewable energy effort throughout the city. “Our main objective is to promote and increase the energy efficiency,” said Pete Etchart said. “Right now we are working on the public, governmental sector.” That grant will be awarded to this company by U.S. Energy Department. All the money in the grant will target many initiatives like solar energy projects.

“Many projects we will be doing will combine our implemented solutions and then design projects for the future,” explained Etchart. The first projects released will be the energy efficiency projects. Among the highlights, there is a solar project involved at the department of police and also at the Community Center. Sparks are also trying to get rebates from NV Energy. “We know that we must be flexible in order to achieve our purpose. We must take full advantage of the situation,” Etchart told.

“Many federal funds are out there. There are rebates and we are trying to access them. There are many things going on,” said the representative. “We have to be prepared to go after the funds and make the best we can do and also do many projects.”

“Now our focus is the renewable energy and also on the solar system,” added Etchart. “Right now we want to focus on wind programs also. Even if wind energy is not that cost effective, as solar power does. Company representatives say that they will also work on lowering the power bills. The newly found technology will fuel a lot of the city’s work.

“This whole thing is going pretty fast and it can be hard to keep up sometimes. But we have done LED testing on the streetlights. We are getting better and better each day. We are getting better and better at creating better products.”
Julia Ratti, a councilwoman is encouraging the efforts in the city.
“One year ago, we did not think this was possible but we have made a lot of progress,” she explains.
